An African Penguin stretches on the beach in the morning. Known as the Cape penguin or South African penguin, this species features distinctive pink patches of skin above the eyes and a black facial mask. They are native to the coasts of South Africa and Namibia. Despite once being extremely numerous, their population is now rapidly declining due to multiple threats. Boulders Beach in Simon's Town on the Cape Peninsula, South Africa, hosts one of the largest colonies, attracting tourists who have the unique opportunity to swim with these penguins.
